As with any job search, it’s important to start with the basics. The first is to ask - what is it that I want to do? And why do I want to do it? Since I am interested in many things, I thought long and hard about this and came up with the following:
I want to utilize my left and right brain to make people’s lives better.
This could entail the following activities:
- Formulating visual solutions that make the complex clear.
- Developing graphic design solutions to bring consumers and businesses closer together.
- Designing and developing new products and solutions to improve people’s lives.
- Finding innovative solutions to critical problems throughout the world.
- Studying human behavior to further improve peoples’ lives.
- Discovering new challenges that haven’t yet been identified.
To help support these activities, I would also like to:
- Push my visual creation skills to the limit.
- Learn more about the design process - independent of discipline - and radically expand my design skills.
- Find opportunities that require a blend of innovation, artistry, psychology and interpersonal relations.
I think my desire to make people’s lives better ultimately comes down to my personality, which is sometimes classified as an idealist. INFPs, more than other iNtuitive Feeling types, are focused on making the world a better place for people.
I have found this to be true not only in the workplace, but in my personal relationships as well. When I have an opportunity to directly and positively impact someone’s life - whether that is through an effective infographic or simply improving the safety of a friend’s home - I gain tremendous satisfaction from the thought process and resulting activity.
I want to make people’s lives better and I believe effective design is the way to achieve this goal.
